I professionally trained as an independent celebrant with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy. This means I can create ceremonies across a wide range of beliefs and traditions.

The main difference is that a humanist celebrant conducts non-religious ceremonies rooted in humanist values. As an independent celebrant, my approach gives you the flexibility to include non-religious, spiritual, cultural or mixed-faith elements depending on what feels right for you.

In Scotland, both humanist and other belief celebrants can be authorised to legally solemnise marriages. Legal authorisation depends on the individual celebrant and the body through which they are authorised.

With me, your ceremony can be completely non-religious, a wee bit spiritual, include elements of faith or culture, have a humanist outlook, blend different traditions, or be none of those things at all.

What matters is that it feels like you.

Your wedding booked with me from February 2027 onwards can include legal solemnisation as part of your ceremony in Scotland.

I’m affiliated with Sacred Heart Sanctuary, and I'm currently working with them towards legal authorisation to solemnise marriages myself, with my own authorisation expected by August 2027.

Until then, I’ll still lead the personal, heartfelt ceremony we create together, with an authorised Sacred Heart Sanctuary celebrant colleague attending to carry out the legal solemnisation.

I’ll always talk you through exactly how this works well in advance, so there are no surprises. I’ll keep you right every step of the way. I’ve got you!

Absolutely. I create ceremonies that include your beliefs, values and traditions.

We can include prayer, family blessings, cultural traditions, music with spiritual meaning, rituals, signs and synchronicity, or none of those things at all.

If different beliefs, cultures or traditions are coming together, we can talk through what you’d like to include and find a way to honour them with care and respect.

Everyone deserves to feel seen and be celebrated.

I don’t make assumptions about gender, family roles, faith, identity, ability or what a ceremony is supposed to look or feel like. I always begin with you. Your relationships, your memories, your values, your beliefs and the wee details that make your story yours.

We think together about seating, movement, sensory needs, communication, pacing, language and anything else that will help you and your loved ones feel comfortable and included.

Traditions can be beautiful when they hold meaning. They can also be adapted, reimagined or completely left behind. We can honour family and culture, create something new, or blend the two in a way that feels right for you.

Every Iris & Sun ceremony feels like a warm hug, with people at the heart and soul of it.

Sounds lovely! They might share a reading, choose a piece of music, bring forward rings or keepsakes, make a promise, join a symbolic ritual or contribute a favourite story or memory. We can find ways for the people you love to be part of the ceremony that feel natural to them, without putting anyone on the spot.

Yes please! I love animals! Ring bearer, guest of honour, chief sniffer of bouquets - we can find a role that suits their personality, as long as your venue and setting are happy to have them. We’ll also think through the practical bits like leads, water, noise, nerves and having a trusted person on hand if they decide they’ve had enough for one day.

Yes, with great care. There are lots of ways to honour someone without making the ceremony feel too heavy. That might be through a photograph, candle, piece of music, flower, reading, shared memory or a line woven into your story. We will find a way to remember them that sits naturally within the ceremony and honours the place they hold in your life.

I only book one ceremony per day, so you have my full attention.

If a genuine emergency meant I absolutely couldn’t be there, I would let you and your suppliers know straight away and work with my trusted celebrant network to arrange professional cover.

My ceremony scripts also include a clear running order and all the information needed to make any unexpected handover as smooth as possible. Hopefully it’s a plan we’ll never need!
